Photos: 21-year-old Nigerian, two others sentenced to a total of 30 years in prison after being found with loaded gun

A Nigerian man, a teenage boy and one other man were jailed for a total of 30 years on Friday, Feb. 26, at Wood Green Crown Court after a loaded gun was found in their possession.
Olatunji Ladejobi, 21 (left) of Araglen Avenue, South Ockendon, Essex, was jailed for 11 years after he was found guilty of possession of a prohibited weapon and possession of a firearm with intent to commit an indictable offence.

Suspected armed robbers arrested, stolen vehicle recovered

According to a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, for the Commissioner of Police, Rivers State Command, DSP Ahmad Muhammad, at about 1:30 am yesterday morning, Thursday 25th, two suspected armed robbers, 27 years old Gabriel Samuel and 31 year old Wokeko Samuel were arrested along Cheribim Road, GRA, Port Harcourt following a distress call to the effect that they snatched at gun point a black Toyota Corolla with registration number ABM 473 AA.
The vehicle was reportedly snatched from its owner during the early  hours of the day at Rumuigbo, Port Harcourt.

House of Reps. to investigate alleged NAPIMS $260m Oil Contract

 
The House of Representatives yesterday Feb. 24th directed its Committees on Petroleum Upstream and Public Procurement to investigate an alleged $260 million dollars oil contract awarded by the National Petroleum Investment Management Services (NAPIMS), a subsidiary of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC.

Lagos establishes first DNA Forensic lab in Nigeria...

Lagos state is serious about crime fighting and has established the first DNA Forensic lab in the country. Read the press statement below...
"In furtherance of its commitment to the criminal justice sector reforms and take the fight against crime to a greater level, the Lagos State Government on Tuesday announced that it has concluded plans to establish the first ever high-powered DNA Forensic Laboratory in Nigeria which will take off within the next six to twelve months.

Alleged mastermind of 2010 Abuja bombing, Charles Okah, undergoes anal surgery, trial suspended

The Federal High court in Abuja has suspended the trial of the alleged mastermind of the October 1, 2010 bombing in Abuja, Charles Okah, after it learnt Okah is currently recuperating at the National Hospital Abuja where he had a haemorrhoids (piles) surgery.

At the resumed hearing of the trial yesterday February 22nd, the prosecuting counsel, Alex Izinyon (SAN), asked for an adjournment of the case following Okah’s health status

16 members of the notorious cult group known as Awawa Confraternity were on Thursday, February 18, arrested by operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS)  of the State Police Command.

The suspects identified as Onyekaba Israel, Olatunde Babalola, Innocent Afamuzoka, Ugochukwu Okafor, Sule David, Kabiru Dahiru, Ibrahim Muafu, Tasiru Suraju, Mustapha Ibrahim, Lawal Ibrahim, Yahaya Yusuf, Tochukwu Ede, Lawal Adamu, Chibuwane Nweke and Amaechi Amaga, were among cultists that have been terrorising innocent residents of Agege and its environs in Lagos.

Northern Politician and activist, Najatu Muhammad rejects Buhari’s appointment via newspaper advert

Northern politician and activist, Najatu Muhammad, used the quarter page of Daily Trust newspaper publication today, to announce her rejection of an appointment by President Buhari. Buhari had over the weekend ordered the sack of 13 Vice Chancellors of 13 Federal Universities and announced their replacements. Najatu was one of the replacements.

Last week, residents of Jiwa community in Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) witnessed a ceremony marking the solemnisation of a gay marriage in the area. Leadership Newspaper reports that the ceremony was however cut short by the intervention of men of the Nigeria police who promptly arrested the suspects.

Nigerian govt. sacks 13 University Vice Chancellors

The Federal Government has sacked the Vice Chancellors of 12 federal universities established by the Goodluck Jonathan administration.
Also affected by the sack is the Vice Chancellor of the National Open University of Nigeria, Prof. Vincent Tenebe.

In the statement announcing the sack, the government gave no reason for the action.
